$4.5 MILLION COMES BACK TO JACKSON

Making An IMPACT, One Tax Return At A Time.

VITA

We want struggling families to succeed.  By supporting the United Way of Jackson County you make it possible for low income families to have their taxes filed properly and accurately.  During the 2015 tax season the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program was responsible for bringing over $4.5 million back to Jackson County.  Money that was spent locally and was used to help those in need.  Cindy was just one the thousands whose life was impacted through the VITA program.

In the process of preparing this year’s tax return, Cindy explained to the VITA Volunteer that she was about to be evicted because she owed about $1,500 in back rent.  She also mentioned that she had not filed her taxes for a couple of years.  The tax preparer worked with the client to file her prior year returns and secured over $6,000 in refunds that she would receive by filing the prior years’ returns.  Cindy returned some time later and said she was able to show all the tax returns to her landlord who agreed to wait for the back rent until she received her refunds.

The VITA Program helped 4,158 households last tax season.  That translates to over 6,000 individuals who were impacted by this program, families receiving their money back from the government that otherwise would have stayed in Washington.

See how you can make a difference and impact the life of a family in need.
