The COVID-19 pandemic upended life for all of us. When the most vulnerable are affected, that’s where United Way partnerships make a powerful difference. Consider the story of an elderly woman, which came out of our investment in the Jackson Guardian Program through Family Service & Children’s Aid:

“Norma” is an 80-plus-year-old that lives in a nursing care facility. While receiving routine care at a local hospital, she contracted COVID-19. She wasn’t allowed to return to her nursing care facility until the quarantine period was over. The hospital made plans to move her out of Jackson County to their dedicated COVID facility, but that raised concerns over her mental and physical well-being due to being isolated from people she cared about. The Guardian Program quickly stepped in. Through its advocacy and care planning, Norma was allowed to return to her nursing home facility with precautions. She has since made a full recovery.

For Norma, a simple transfer was anything but simple; the relief that came from the Guardian Program’s involvement was immense. A single life, touched by a United Way partner and your financial support. Please consider making a gift today to impact lives right here in Jackson County.
