Catching the Dream: A Name That Speaks for Itself

Connection Corner (13)

Since 2021, Catching the Dream Learning Center has been providing educational services to Burmese American children ages 0-5 as they begin their educational journey in a new land.

Founded by a passionate group of Burmese Americans, Catching the Dream looks to provide a new opportunity to receive education and participate in the community as equals. As an ethnic group in their native country that are persecuted and prohibited to receive formal education, Catching the Dream is more than just a classroom, it’s home.

The United Way of South Central Michigan is funding Catching the Dream as a new grantee in the latest multi-year funding process.

“We plan on using this funding from United Way in order to purchase our curriculum for this upcoming school year,” said program director, Lashi Mai. They also plan on using the funding to help provide professional development and training for their educators.
