IMPACT! Finding a Better Way for a Student

Student-Advocacy-Center-768x770

A child with Autism Spectrum Disorder may face tremendous challenges in succeeding in school. Fortunately, our support for the Student Advocacy Center’s Education Advocacy program is making a meaningful, measurable difference:

Samantha is a six-year-old student struggling with behavior issues in school due to her Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Student Advocacy Center Advocate supported the family by working with the school to determine appropriate supports. Samantha was provided with a one-on-one paraprofessional, social work services and a behaviors support plan. Samantha showed some success with the plan. Later, it became clear she would do even better in a smaller class setting. Samantha was transferred to an ASD classroom in another building, and the Advocate assisted the family with the transition to the new program and new school team. With a marked decrease in behavioral incidents, Samantha is finding greater success in the new setting and is now able to show consistent academic improvement. Collaboratively, the Advocate assisted the school and the parent to develop a system of two-way communication that allows the parent and staff working with her child to keep each other updated.

Thank you for making this kind of impact possible. Your support makes a difference.
