Losing a loved one can be devastating. When you’re among those who struggle to put food on the table, the emotional and physical toll can become dangerous. Here’s how our partner at South Michigan Food Bank helped a client turn the corner from loss to joy:
Duane is a client at a Fresh Food Distribution whose wife passed away last year. He loved to cook for her, but since she passed, he lost his drive to prepare meals. The distribution site delivered a box to him a few months ago and it restored his will to cook. Now, Duane looks forward to the surprise of what is in the box each month, to creating meals from the contents, and sharing what he makes with his neighbors who are not able to cook for themselves.
According to Feeding America, 13.1% of Jackson County residents are food insecure. We believe every person deserves to have enough food to eat. That’s why we’re grateful for all of our supporters in Jackson County who care enough to help us tackle food insecurity. If you haven’t given to United Way lately, here’s your chance to make a meaningful difference!
