IMPACT! Food Means Freedom

Having enough to eat for yourself and your family—that’s something a lot of us take for granted. But for many people, especially those in poverty or Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE), it’s not a sure thing. United Way gifts help support the South Michigan Food Bank, which in turn provides food through local food pantries and distribution programs.

One distribution client said that the Food Bank’s provision had given her financial freedom to pay bills and afford other necessities. “Things we don’t have or can’t acquire on our own, you guys are providing, and we just appreciate it. You take care of and are prepared for a lot of things, but this is just an overwhelming experience! We just thank you!”

According to Feeding America, 13.1% of Jackson County residents are food insecure. We believe every person deserves to have enough food to eat. That’s why we’re grateful for all of our supporters in Jackson County who care enough to help us tackle food insecurity. If you haven’t given to United Way lately, here’s your chance to make a meaningful difference!
