Statements from students in the Breakout Program

Healthy kids stay in school and learn.  We believe children who complete their education will grow up to be young adults who will contribute to our society.  By supporting United Way of Jackson County you are helping teach children how to stay healthy through the Breakout Drug Education Program.  Last year 1440 students were reached through the program.  89% of those students committed to being drug free.  The following testimonial comes from one of the students involved with the program.

“In simplest terms, a leader is one who knows where he wants to go, and gets up, and goes.” I became a member of the Breakout Drug Education Program because of these three steps. I knew that I wanted to make a difference, so I volunteered and eventually became a member.  Here I am three years later and still a volunteer. Joining the Breakout Drug Education Program is one of the best, if not the best things that I have done in my life thus far. It has taught me that I truly can make a difference. I have also realized that younger children actually do “look up” to me, therefore I have found that I must be a great role model for them.  In addition to all of these wonderful things that I have learned, the Breakout Drug Education Program has also made me realize that my true desire in life is to become a teacher. Through all of my various involvements with children I have discovered a true passion for teaching America’s youth.

In closing, I would have to say that the Breakout Drug Education Program has been a tremendous experience. Volunteerism is very important in our society and I strongly urge all to get involved. Make a difference, the rewards are unbelievable.
