M&C Wins Silver Award

Chris Sargent, President and CEO for United Way of South Central Michigan, earned honors from the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America as the region’s Communicator of the Year.

The annual award goes to a person in west Michigan who is an exceptional communicator and isn’t in the marketing or communication field.

Sargent received kudos at the WMPRSA PRoof Awards on June 8 in Grand Rapids. The chapter noted that he “personally and enthusiastically champions the region, the work of United Way and its partners, and United Way’s core values.”

“For Chris Sargent, the needs of struggling families, children and individuals are things he takes personally. His daily passion, his all-out effort as a communicator, is to make sure we do, too,” the chapter said.

In accepting the award, Sargent credited his success as a communicator to the partnership and support UWSCMI’s staff and leadership. Such partnership, he said, is what drives positive impact for struggling people in communities.

Sargent wasn’t the only UWSCMI award winner at the PRoof event. The Marketing & Communications team of Teresa Kmetz, Rick Chambers, Tammy Mills, Theresa Stevens and Mitch Wilfer won the Integrated Communications Silver Award for effectively communicating UWSCMI’s merger locally and regionally.
