United Way to Host Event at MSU Aiding Local Nonprofits
LANSING – United Way of South Central Michigan will help local nonprofits recruit volunteers to serve their community through a Volunteer Fair at Michigan State University.
The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Michigan State University’s Student Services Building, 556 E. Circle Drive. More than 30 nonprofits will be represented. There will also be food, entertainment and an onsite service project. The Volunteer Fair—which is free to attend—is a collaboration between UWSCMI, local nonprofit agencies, MSU and the Center for Community Engaged Learning.
“Since the pandemic, many of our fellow Lansing-area nonprofits have struggled to rebuild the ranks of their volunteers,” said Michele Strasz, Community Impact Director at United Way of South Central Michigan (UWSCMI). “Our Capital Area Volunteer Services Committee set a goal of turning that around by increasing volunteer engagement. Giving people a chance to learn about the need and where they can engage is a great first step.”
Free CATA bus passes are available for anyone who wants to participate in the Volunteer Fair; you can pre-register at tinyurl.com/cata-UWvolfair2024. Sponsorships are available for the event by contacting Celaina Boylan-Castilla at (517) 203-5015 or c.boylan-castilla@uwscmi.org.
