IMPACT! Protecting Two Generations

Domestic violence often involves more than two adults. Children can be at risk, including those yet to be born. United Way partner AWARE Shelter’s counseling services recently helped protect a pregnant mom and her unborn child from a threatening situation:

An AWARE counselor was working with a survivor of domestic violence for several months. Her partner left her when she became pregnant. However, during that time she was receiving counseling services, he began contacting her again to reconcile. When she denied his advances, he became threatening. The counselor referred her to an AWARE legal advocate, who helped her petition the courts for relief through a Personal Protection Order. She was successful in obtaining a protective order and safely able to move on with the help of our counseling staff and legal advocates.

A new family is on the road to a brighter future thanks to AWARE Shelter, United Way and supporters like you. Please continue your support—or if you haven’t given to United Way, consider donating today!
