WE LIVE UNITED by providing the opportunity for anyone in need to maintain or regain their stability. Central Michigan 2-1-1 is a collaboration between United Way of Jackson County and LifeWays. It is the single most powerful tool we have to connect those in need with available health and human services. Last year, Central Michigan 2-1-1 received over 10,000 calls from Jackson County, connecting those in need to vital services. Janelle is just one of the thousands who have felt the impact of your United Way support.
Janelle called Central Michigan 2-1-1 because she was experiencing domestic violence and needed help finding permanent housing for herself and her two children. Having called 2-1-1 for assistance with other needs before, Janelle knew that was the right place to turn.
Janelle told the 2-1-1 Information & Referral Specialist that she needed temporary housing at a domestic violence shelter to stay at temporarily, help finding new housing, and help obtaining the funds for her first month’s rent and deposit. The Information & Referral Specialist helped her with every need. What’s more, the Information & Referral Specialist noted that Janelle may have other issues to address, and they worked together to get Janelle the assistance she needed, including food, clothing and medical insurance.
Janelle ended the call pleased with how 2-1-1 handled her needs, and thanked 2-1-1 for all they do for the community. Janelle assured the Information & Referral Specialist that if she needed anything else in the future that 2-1-1 would once again be the first call she makes.
The top 5 referrals from last year were for food, help with utilities, rent or housing, and tax assistance. By calling Central Michigan 2-1-1, families and individuals are being connected to services they need to maintain or regain their financial stability.
