Battle Creek Generosity Bolsters Relief Fund

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Battle Creek area foundations and individual donors are stepping up in a big way.

Recent donations from the Battle Creek Community Foundation, the Miller Foundation and the Binda Foundation strengthened United Way’s Disaster Relief Fund by $25,000. What’s more, those gifts will bring an additional $15,000 from DTE, which is matching the first $5,000 of every contribution to United Ways statewide through April 13.

“These generous gifts prove once again that no matter the challenge, the Battle Creek community meets it head-on,” said Chris Sargent, President & CEO of United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region.

The latest contributions are in addition to earlier gifts from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Kellogg Company and others from the Battle Creek area.

BCCF gave $15,000. The Binda Foundation gave $5,000, and the Miller Foundation gave $5,000. To date, Battle Creek area donors have donated $726,500 to the Disaster Relief Fund.

“We’re constantly investing disaster relief funds to make sure our most vulnerable residents have food, shelter and other essentials,” Sargent said. “We’re grateful for these caring foundations and donors stepping up to support those in need.”
