“I KNOW MY CALLING. I WANT TO HELP THE ELDERLY BY BECOMING A HOME HEALTH AIDE.”

Losing It All

My mom was my world. She watched my three kids for me so that I could go to college. When she was diagnosed with lupus, it wasn’t an easy choice for me to drop out. It was the only choice. She had taken care of my children and it was my turn to take care of her. She passed in 2010.

Then my cousin was diagnosed with cancer. She had four boys. I moved in with her to help take care of her and them. She passed in July 2013. They didn’t need me anymore. They didn’t want me anymore. I was dropped off at a shelter. I had given them my all. And I was left with nothing.

Back On Track

While at the shelter, I heard about Ministry with Community. Sure, they help me with the basics by offering food and a place to shower. But they go beyond that by offering employment support.

It’s thanks to this support and my experience caring for others that I’m pursuing my true calling – to be a home health aide for the elderly.

My name is Beverly, and now I help change the story.

With the generous help of Ministry with Community, Beverly was able to change the story.

Education

To give children the greatest chance to thrive, we invest in early childhood programs that help each child start school ready to learn.  We also support programs that provide quality child care and after-school activities, get families involved in their children’s education, and help children become leaders.

Health

We are making sure people have access to physical and mental health care, and that babies are born healthy. We work with health care providers to keep costs low and make sure services are available for those with little or no health insurance.
