If you already filed your 2019 taxes, you will receive your Child Tax Credit payments automatically starting in July. Payments will be sent to your bank account on file with the IRS. Or, if you don’t have an account on file, you will get a paper check mailed to your address. If you need to update your bank account information, your address or information about your children, you’ll need to update your information with the IRS. We encourage everyone to file a 2020 tax return as well. It’s not too late to file! In addition to the Child Tax Credit, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit or special Michigan tax credits like the Home Heating Credit and the Homestead Property Tax Credit. The only way to make sure that you receive all available credits is to file a full tax return for 2020.
