Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee & Hillsdale Veteran’s Transportation Program

The mission of Catholic Charities of JLH is to make Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties healthier, more compassionate communities by empowering individuals with the capacity and the desire to improve their quality of life.

Since 1958, Catholic Charities of JLH has been leading the battle against the issues that plague so many in our neighborhoods.  They provide an array of human services, regardless of faith or ability to pay, welcoming everyone with open arms and open hearts.

Because of your donations to United Way of Jackson County, Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale has been able to transport Jackson area Veterans to much needed medical appointments through their Veteran’s Transportation program.

John is just one of many Vet’s who have benefited from this program.  He was referred there from 2-1-1,   John was new to Jackson, he needed to go to the VA in Battle Creek and wasn’t sure how he was going to get there.  He was anxious and nervous.  The staff at Catholic Charities explained what he needed to do in order for him to be transported.  John was in their office the next day and filled out the proper paper work.  John began to feel comfortable with the staff and was able to share why getting to the VA was so important.  He has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, it has gotten worse since moving and he was afraid.  The staff who worked with John was able to provide him with a Volunteer Driver who was actually a Veteran himself.   After John returned from the VA the day of his appointment he called the Transportation office and shared with staff how wonder the program is and how just riding with another Veteran took a lot of the stress away before ever arriving at Battle Creek for his appointment.  Sometimes it takes a little more time to make sure our Vets (Hero’s) are provided with all that they deserve and we feel very fortunate that Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale can be that service. John is still riding with the Veteran’s Transportation program and doing wonderful.

95% of Veterans surveyed said they were able to access health services by using the transportation program and 85% said they have been able to maintain and / or improve health because of the program.

The dollars you donate are making a difference in the lives of some of America’s finest hero’s right here in the greater Jackson area and Catholic Charities of JLH’s Veteran’s Transportation Program is proud partner of the United Way of Jackson County.
