Day 1: Welcome

Welcome to United Way of South Central Michigan’s 21-Day Equity Challenge!

We are so grateful you have decided to join us in this work. Every day at United Way, we look to partner with community members like you who are committed to a future where everyone can lead a flourishing life. To do this, we know it will take hard work, vision, and imagination to create a world that doesn’t exist yet. In this world, every person has what they need to thrive.

Because equity is at the core of our work, we also know that it can be hard to incorporate into our daily practice. Equity is both a critical thinking mindset and a set of actions that we can each take to develop more just communities. If you’re still wondering:

What exactly is equity?

Does it still matter today?

What can I do about it?

You’re in the right place! We’ll answer these questions and more.

As we embark on this journey, my first challenge to you is to take a moment to find your favorite writing tool and write down a few reflections on the following questions.

Reflect:

  • Why are you joining the Equity Challenge?
  • What do you hope to learn during the Equity Challenge?
  • How will you keep yourself accountable to finish the Equity Challenge?
  • If you participated in a previous Equity Challenge, what did you learn? How did that impact you?

Engage:

  • Complete the challenge pre-survey today.
  • Share the challenge sign up with three people in your community!
  • Initiate a conversation about the Equity Challenge with a friend, family member or colleague. Discuss the reflection questions or what your hoped-for future for our community might be.
