Stephanie Slingerland, who spearheaded philanthropy and social impact activities worldwide at Kellanova, has joined United Way of South Central Michigan as Executive Engagement Officer. She will also continue to serve as Executive Director, Kellogg Company 25-Year Employees’ Fund, a role which she has held for the last decade.
“Stephanie has long been an energetic member of our board, including past chair, and an active supporter of United Way,” said Chris Sargent, UWSCMI President and Executive Officer. “Having a leader of her caliber on our Executive Leadership Team adds immense strategic strength and, importantly, meaningful impact to lives throughout our region.”
As Executive Engagement Officer, Slingerland will lead a community engagement strategy across the organization’s six-county region, building relationships and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals, businesses and community partners to further connect with United Way’s mission. She will also remain as Executive Director for the 25-Year Fund, providing stewardship and oversight for the Fund that supports legacy Kellogg retirees and their families globally.
“United Way has played a meaningful role in shaping who I am and my belief in the power of community,” Slingerland said. “I’ve spent more than two decades bringing people, organizations and resources together around a shared purpose, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to apply that experience here and contribute to the impact made possible through partnership and collaboration.”
A graduate of Western Michigan University (WMU), where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Slingerland spent 20 years at Kellanova and its predecessor, Kellogg Company. She held several strategic leadership roles in communications and philanthropy, becoming Chief Philanthropy Officer for Kellanova in 2023. She also served nearly a decade terms on UWSCMI’s Board of Directors, including as Board Chair in 2024-25, and was instrumental in guiding the 2022 merger of three United Ways to create UWSCMI.
An enthusiastic volunteer, anti-hunger advocate and United Way champion, Slingerland has been part of the Leadership Council for No Kid Hungry and held a leadership role with the United Way Worldwide Global Corporate Leadership Advisory Council. She is a regular fixture at community events and is actively involved with several other local organizations through board and volunteer service. Her many efforts landed her on Crain’s Notable Leaders in Philanthropy list in 2025. Among her awards and recognition are the Defender of Tomorrow Award (Heart of West Michigan United Way, 2025), WMU Alumni Achievement Award (College of Arts & Sciences, 2023), and the national School Breakfast Hero Award (No Kid Hungry, 2020). A native Michigander, Stephanie is married and has two children.
