IMPACT! Defending the Most Vulnerable

When vulnerable people in our community face legal worries, they can’t count on winning the day like an episode of “Law & Order.” They need experts to defend their rights. Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is a United Way partner agency striving to make sure every person can tap legal assistance when needed, regardless of income. We’re proud and grateful every time this partnership—fueled by your support!—brings about outcomes like this one:

During this period, LSSCM assisted “Claudia” with child custody and a divorce from her abusive husband. Claudia reached out to LSSCM and United Way for help after hearing about our services and LSSCM agreed to represent her in court. Our attorney advised her, prepared pleadings, and filed a divorce case at court. We litigated the case and won Claudia custody of her child, an equitable property settlement, and child support. We also ensured the enforcement of her Personal Protection Order and other measures to ensure the safety of Claudia and her child.

What a powerful story! And it wouldn’t happen if not for generous people of Jackson County. Please consider making a gift today. Every dollar given locally goes to support our work right here in our community.
