IMPACT! Music and Mentoring Change a Life

Save-Our-Youth-10-2021-768x561-1

Without a positive male role model, many boys struggle to fit in and build self-esteem. Save Our Youth Help Them Prosper is a great partner with United Way, working to provide mentors and positive guidance for boys and girls alike. Here’s an example:

“Bryon” was a shy, quiet 10-year-old African American male who does well in school. However, he is bullied in school due to having a problem with defending and expressing himself. James’s grandmother had sought a mentoring program for her grandson with hopes a male role model would help him. Bryon was matched with a male mentor in the Save Our Youth program. The mentor encouraged him to join the Save Our Youth music program. He learned to play guitar, and by the end of the 2020-21 school year, Bryon’s self-confidence had grown and he excelled in the music program. Bryon is now active in other Save Our Youth activities and is interacting with other youth without feeling left out or having low self-esteem.

Another young life is put on a path to growth and success thanks to your support for United Way. Thank you!
