Looking for a way to make a difference?

United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region is seeking candidates for two AmeriCorps VISTA positions that will work to connect financially struggling families with local resources.

In partnership with the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, United Way is working to integrate community resources with public benefits and make them accessible in a new online resource hub, MI Bridges. The work will include:

  • Developing a plan for building capacity for utilization of MI Bridges in libraries, community colleges and community centers.
  • Outreach and enrollment of Community Navigation Partner nonprofits and development of protocols to ensure that referral partners are in the 211 community database.
  • Publicizing MI Bridges to target audiences by inventorying available marketing tools, developing community-specific materials and providing materials to community partner organizations.

VISTA members will gain expertise in community system-building and a new health and human services delivery solution as well as considerable exposure with nonprofit organizations.

The project is a one-year commitment, beginning June 2018 and ending May 2019.

Benefits include a living allowance, childcare assistance if eligible, health coverage, training, and an education award upon completion of service.
