Volunteer Center Unveils New Database

United Way is making some changes to its Volunteer Center aimed at streamlining the service, engaging more people and reducing costs.

The outside-run database we’ve been using has become too expensive and not effective at actually connecting volunteers with local projects. As of Jan. 1, 2016, we’re switching to an internally managed database that we’ll manage entirely within United Way.

So what does this mean for community volunteers and nonprofit partners?

If you’re already registered as a volunteer or agency, we’ll simply move that information to the new database. Agencies will be able to add new projects or contact our staff to update existing ones. Users can scan the list of available volunteer opportunities and contact the agency directly to get involved.

The strength of this approach is how it gets both volunteers and agencies more directly engaged. Also, our staff will be more hands-on with the management of the system. In short, it’s a more personal way of getting involved!

Volunteerism is the lifeblood of a thriving community. We’re proud to do our part to promote this in Jackson County.

If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Schiro at sschiro@uwjackson.org or 517-796-5120.
