STAR Awards Nominations Continue, Ceremony on Hold

United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region and Gryphon Place have decided to postpone the annual STAR Awards celebration for 2021 in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The STAR (Sharing Time and Resources) Celebration and Community Volunteer Awards have long been a time to recognize volunteers for their contributions of time, talent, and energy in the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. That recognition will continue with open nominations, as there are many examples of outstanding volunteer effort, particularly during the pandemic. We are hopeful that we will be able to safely host an in-person awards celebration in 2022.

Our nominations are currently open and will remain open, with both 2020 and 2021 nominees eligible to receive recognition at the 2022 STAR Awards celebration. We encourage all local organizations to consider recognizing those who have given their time and talents to make a difference in their community. Nominate a volunteer here.

Both UWBCKR and Gryphon Place would like to thank all volunteers for their outstanding work and dedication to serving our communities. If you are looking for ways to give back to your community during this time, you can visit www.gryphon.org/volunteer to view the COVID-19 relief volunteer opportunities available in the Kalamazoo area, or www.changethestory.org to view the opportunities available in the Battle Creek area.

If you know anyone who is need of resources or information, please encourage them to dial 2-1-1. If you or someone you know is in need of emotional support, please call your local crisis line. For Kalamazoo County, please call (269) 381 – 4357. For Calhoun County, please call 1-800-632-5449.
Please send any questions to getinvolved@uwbckr.org.
