Because of your donation to United Way of Jackson County area teens are advocating for pregnancy prevention with their peers. The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative is a community-wide effort led by the United Way of Jackson County and the Jackson County Health Department. The mission of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative is to reduce the teen pregnancy rate and address contributing factors for the young people of Jackson County. The Teen Pregnancy Prevention initiative is committed to working towards improving the sexual health of teens in Jackson County. To accomplish this TPPI has established four strategic goals.
- Maintain the TPPI as an active, sustainable, collaborative that works to improve adolescent sexual health in Jackson County
- Improve adolescent sexual health in Jackson County
- Improve parent child communication regarding adolescent sexual health
- Improve community awareness regarding adolescent sexual health
TPPI works directly with participating schools to help ensure that programs they offer are effective and are working, they conduct pre and post testing of programs and lend continuing support to area schools. TPPI also coordinates the Teen Advisor Council, several area teens volunteer and are trained by TPPI to make their programs and services more appealing to their peers. They also serve as a liaison and make referrals to area agencies for other teens that may require their services. Among other things, TAC kids lead classroom presentations and make more teens aware of adolescent sexual health. Just within the last six months TAC kids have reached over 200 teens by talking to them about the TPPI, making community referrals, and distributing promotional items.
