IMPACT! Life Beyond Trauma

AWARE-counseling-768x593-1

Sexual assault is a heartbreaking, life-shattering trauma. Coming to grips with the impact and rebuilding one’s life is a tough journey. We support AWARE Shelter’s counseling services to help Jackson County residents cope with trauma:

One of AWARE’s counselors had been working with an adult survivor of sexual assault over the course of eight months. In the beginning, the survivor had difficulty opening up about his experience. He felt a tremendous amount of shame over what had happened to him and had little self-confidence. He continued working with the counselor through telehealth. Virtual appointments alleviated transportation barriers, and he was able to make appointments more consistently. During this report period, he made significant progress emotionally and improved his self-confidence. As a result, he was able to change employment, which resulted in increased income as well.

Transforming lives is what the work of United Way is all about. Please support this work and help make a tremendous difference in Jackson County.
