IMPACT! Transforming a Young Life

JUMP-768x779-1

We’re incredibly proud to work with Family Service & Children’s Aid’s JUMP program (Just Understand My Potential), which provides at-risk juveniles with services to promote regular school attendance, employability, improved behavioral choices, better family relationships, and prevent future prosecution or recidivism. The following story illustrates the important ways this program is changing young lives:

A student was referred to JUMP through a Jackson County school after being caught vaping nicotine in the bathroom at school. An initial assessment revealed that the student frequently vaped and smoked marijuana. A JUMP instructor continued meeting each week with the student to help the student better understand the risks of vaping and smoking. The student also gained coping skills around stress and emotional management. After 90 days, the student was able to identify the risks of vaping and smoking. The coping skills the student continues to use is helping avoid use of substances when feeling stressed. This student also began to apply for part-time jobs in order to work after school hours in order to “keep busy and stay on track.” At the six-month follow-up period, this student’s parent stated that the student was doing great, working multiple jobs during the summer months, and is excited for their final year of high school.

A young life back on track for long-term success—that’s what makes our work and our partnerships worthwhile. Join us as a supporter of United Way!
